Colby's 'Emerging Artists' currents4: Amy Stacey
Currents, the Colby College Museum of Art's annual emerging artist series, takes place every fall in the Museum. The series presents solo-exhibitions by artists with a connection to the state of Maine in the Museum's Davis Gallery with an accompanying publication and public lecture by the artist. Each exhibition provides a unique opportunity to view cutting-edge art by some of today's most exciting emerging artists. In an effort to broaden the exposure of our audiences to artists pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms, special attention is given, but not limited, to artists working in art forms such as video, installation, performance, and site-specific works. Curated by Sharon Corwin, Carolyn Muzzy Director and Chief Curator. The fourth installment of the Museum's annual emerging- artist exhibition, currents, presents work by Maine-based installation artist Amy Stacey Curtis. Curtis, who has been working in abandoned industrial sites throughout the state for the past seven years, creates interactive works that examine our interconnectedness through themes of chaos, order, and repetition. For currents4, Curtis invites viewers to perceive, manipulate, and perpetuate her exploration of light and color. Free and Open to the Public Tuesday Saturday 10 am - 5 pm, Sunday 12-5 pm and Closed Mondays. The Museum is closed during the following holidays: Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year s Day.

The Life of a Maine Soldier during the War Between the States Educator Hank Lunn to Portray Civil War Soldier at Upcoming Friends of the Maine State Museum Lecture Series Program on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. The Friends of the Maine State Museum hosts educator and living history interpreter Hank Lunn of Camden in the next free program in the Maine Voices from the Civil War lecture series. Lunn will present the program, The Life of a Maine Soldier during the War Between the States, on Wednesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Maine State Museum. Wearing a uniform similar to that of a Union soldier, Lunn will portray the Civil War experiences of Maine soldier Myron W. Harris of Littleton, Maine. Harris joined the 20th Regiment Maine Infantry Volunteers in August 1862 and fought at Little Round Top under the command of Joshua Chamberlain during the Battle of Gettysburg. In Harris s voice, Lunn will tell stories of the hardship and valor of that battle, as well as the everyday life of a common Union soldier. For over forty years, Hank Lunn has worked in public schools in mid-coast Maine as a history teacher, school counselor, and educational consultant. In the past several years, he has developed and delivered a number of Maine-related living history presentations to schools, libraries, historical societies, and civic organizations. The next presentation in the Friends of the Maine State Museum s 2013 lecture series will be on April 24 when textiles curator Madelyn Shaw will present a book signing and talk, Slave Cloth, Shoddy, and Soldiers: Textiles and the Civil War.
