Winthrop, a long-time vacation destination for many, can boast of 12 lakes and ponds within its township. But don't be fooled into thinking that this is a sleepy little vacation community and nothing more!
This town has enjoyed success in attracting new business in recent years and has seen existing businesses expand. Winthrop has been undergoing a revitalization of its downtown. Developers are renovating a large old woolen mill complex to house medical care facilities as well as other commercial, retail and housing spaces. The town is also aggressively promoting the availability of its industrial park to new industry.
Historically a strong manufacturing community, Winthrop has seen a growth in the distribution and high-tech fields. It is important to several surrounding towns as a place to work and shop.
