Randolph

Randolph, about two square miles in size, is about six miles south of Augusta. It has a small-town atmosphere with close proximity to services and schools. The town lies along the bank of the Kennebec River just across from the city of Gardiner.

Randolph was incorporated as West Pittston in 1887 and was a thriving river community specializing in boats, lumber, and ice.

• Randolph is the smallest town in Maine by area.
• The town was named after Randolph, Massachusetts, which was named for Peyton Randolph, the first President of the Continental Congress.
• The last surviving member of General George Washington’s Life Guards, Nathaniel Berry, is buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
