 Midcoast Conservancy is bringing adventuring racing to Maine!

Imagine a cross between a scavenger hunt and an off-road, multisport race (involving trail running/hiking, road/mountain biking and canoeing/kayaking), but where you only complete as much of the course as you are up for. The course is marked by checkpoints (CPs) - usually orange and white orienteering flags - but the route you take between CPs is up to you (with each CP typically worth one point). Teams, which have to stay together at all times, receive course maps right before the race as well as a “passport” that has to be marked with a CP's special code to prove they visited it. Teams try to complete as much of the course as possible within the specified time limit, and must return to the finish before the cut-off time or risk losing points. Teams are ranked in order of how many checkpoints they have obtained within the time limit, and ties are broken by by ranking the team that spent the shortest length of time out on the course higher.

There will be two levels of racing: a three-hour novice course designed for beginners and youth, and an advanced eight-hour course for more experienced racers.
