The 28th anniversary of International World AIDS Day will be celebrated at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 69 Winthrop Street, Augusta, on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 6 p.m.

The annual event is co-sponsored by MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Horizon Program, which serves HIV-positive people in mid-coast and central Maine.

The ceremony remembers and celebrates people affected by HIV and AIDS, both those who have died and those who are still with us. Music, poetry, prayer and candle lighting are part of the service, with a reception to follow. A panel from the AIDS quilt will be available for viewing.

The event is free of charge and is open to the general public. Please join us for this uplifting ceremony. To learn more, call Jennifer Karcher, program manager of the Horizon Program, 621-3785, option 7.
